New for 2009

 Begonia 'Nonstop Fire'

Nonstop begonias have set the standard for tuberous begonias grown from seed. Like the rest of the series, 'Fire' has 2-3" fully double flowers. They are slightly variable producing beautiful scarlet and gold combinations that were previously only available from tuber grown varieties. Plants grow 10-12" tall and wide, and prefer shade to part sun.

 Calibrachoa 'Minifamous' Series

There are many new additions to this series, but some are exceptional. 'Minifamous Blush Pink' and 'Minifamous Double Yellow' are two new double calibrachoa in colors never before available. Minifamous 'Vampire', 'Compact Red', 'Tangerine', 'Scarlet', and 'Lavender Blue' are new or improved colors in the series.

 Coprosma varieties

I first saw this New Zealand native in England about 8 years ago.  Now we are carrying several varieties whose leaves vary from tiny brown and narrow, to brilliantly multicolored, bold, and round. Some sprawl, while others grow straight up. Sara has found many of these to be priceless in her container combinations where the shiny foliage is complimented by other flowering or foliage plants. Coprosma are drought tolerant, and prefer full or part sun.

Cordyline australis 'Pink Princess'

Like 'Electric Pink', this cordyline has a vibrant pink stripe in every burgundy-bronze leaf. Cordyline will grow to about 2' tall the first season, and can be taken indoors in the fall to grow as a houseplant where they may reach up to 4' tall or more. This cutting edge "spike replacement" joins the group that includes other Cordyline, Phormium, Libertia, some Yucca, and several ornamental grasses.

Cordyline 'Torbay Dazzler'

I love this new Cordyline as it combines three different colors in one leaf - cream, green, and burgundy. This is the best new "thriller" for the center of sunny, or partly shaded container combinations. This variety may also be grown as a houseplant, where it may grow several feet tall. Best grown in full or part sun.

Cosmos 'Double Click Bon Bon Rose'

As would be expected in the 'Double Click' series, 'Bon Bon Rose' produces fully double flowers all summer long. With mesmerizing clear pink blooms highlighted with a hint of yellow, these are sure to be very popular. Plant in full sun.

Dahlia 'Pulp Fiction'

The dramatically stunning foliage of this dark-leaved Dahlia isn't just dark. - The extra narrow leaves are very finely serrated giving a surreal effect. Flowers are a vibrant deep orange-red. Grow in full sun.

 Dianthus 'Adorable Jade'

This is a carnation - but not just any carnation. We are very excited to offer you this GREEN one. No dyes, no paint, no magic potion. This plant actually produces pale green, fragrant flowers. We have never tried to overwinter this variety, so for now, we are selling this as an annual. It makes a unique cut flower, and grows 12-14" tall in full sun.

 Geranium 'Caliope Dark Red'

I haven't been all that excited about a Geranium in years, but this on is exceptional! 'Caliope' comes from breeding between zonal and ivy geraniums. The result is a well-branched plant with loads of large, dark red blooms on plants with exceptional heat tolerance and flower-power. This is a great choice for sun or part shade.

 Iochroma 'Royal Queen Purple'

Lantana 'Landmark Pink Glow'

Lantana are one of the most heat tolerant plants available. All varieties are prized by hummingbirds and butterflies alike. 'Pink Glow' has flowers of soft pink and vibrant yellow on the same plant - needless to say, an interesting combination. Great for pots or beds in full sun.

 Libertia 'Goldfinger'

This New Zealnd native has stiff gold and green blades with orange and red highlights. Growing only 1.5' by 1.5', it makes an excellent "spike alternative" in smaller containers, or as a component in larger combinations. This stunner is a slow grower, and prefers moist, fertile soils in full or part sun.

Pansy 'Fizzy Lemonberry'

This exquisite pansy is bicolored lemon yellow and blue - a beautiful combination. But, its claim ot fame is the unique pleats and ruffles of each of its petals. This one is irresistable when viewed up close. Like other pansies, this variety performs best during cooler weather. Full or part sun.

Petunia 'Wave Pink Marble'

This is one of many new additions to the popular 'Wave' family of petunias. This mixture has shades of light pink combined with white. Like other waves, plants have outstanding weather tolerance, and require little maintenance. Plants grow 6-12" tall, and 30-39" wide. Full or part sun.

Phlox 'Astoria Peach'

This is a brand new color on a great plant. This annual phlox blooms all summer long. Flower resemble those of perennial 'garden' phlox, but offer continuous blooms. This color is an amazing compliment to blues and purples. Full to part sun.

Ptilotus 'Joey'

We were given some seed samples for this plant last spring, so many of you have already met 'Joey'. This heat tolerant Austrailian native has silvery green leaves topped with flowers that slightly resemble Celosia. They are an elongated teardrop shape, primarily of grey with violet spark of color throughout. 'Joey' prefers full sun, and grows 12-15".

 Rudbeckia 'Tiger Eye'

Rudbeckia hirta varieties have been developed continuously with great results. This one stands far above the rest. 'Tiger Eye' is the first F1 hybrid Rudbeckia, and shows unmatched powdery mildew resistance. In side-by-side trials, this one performs much stronger late in the season, when other succumb to foliar disease. 'Tiger Eye grows 18-24" tall, with 3" flowers. Full Sun.

Setcreasa 'Purple Variegated'

This is a new twist on an old fashioned  Victorian houseplant commonly referred to as "Purple Heart". Random widths of screaming pink run through each of the dark purple leaves, giving this plant an extra "pop". These perform beautifully in sun or shade, and make a stunning addition to mixed containers or beds. Height: 8-12".

 Verbena bonariensis 'Little One'

 Verbena 'Corsage Pink Bicolor'

Wow!

 Verbena 'Velox'

This new Verbena has been blooming for us since January. It was bred to develop extra large, smooth, flat petals that for flowers resmbling Phlox. The result is this beautifulplant, and 'Velox' performs just as reliably as other vegetatively propogated Verbena. Best in full sun, it grows about 6" tall, and spreads 12-18".

 Zinnia Zahara Series

'Profusion' Zinnias were introduced about ten years ago, and have been extremely popular because of their "profusion" of large flowers on disease resistant plants. Now we have the Zahara series which offers similar traits in a broader range of colors. Plants grow 12-15" tall, and thrive in full sun.

 Zinnia 'Zahara Starlight'

This plant is actually NEW for 2010, but we have enough plant to offer this to a few lucky gardeners. With all the benefits and traits of other Zaharas, it will be one of the 2010 All American Selections winners. Flowers are bright white with a rose center, making this the first ever bi-colored, disease resistant zinnia with large flowers.
